Diamond Grading

Course Code: JDTI - 103
Programme Length: 45 days, alternate days of the week, 18 sessions
Timing: 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

You will learn to grade and identify Diamonds in JDTI's well-equipped Gemmology Lab with GIA and Kruss (Germany) instruments. The institute has a large updated collection of stones which aids in the practical experience.

  • Crystallography, Physical, Chemical, Optical Properties, Distinctive Features, Inclusions and Characteristics
  • Nomenclature and Grading System
  • Importance of 4' Cs (Cut, Color, Clarity & Carat)
  • Cut: Round Brilliant and its Facets, Development of the Brilliant Cut, Forms of Diamond Cuts, Types of Brilliant Cut, Modified Brilliants & Fancy Cuts. Symmetry Features, Proportion, Comprehensive Evaluation
  • Color: Color Grades - Origin & Nomenclature, Color Grading Systems, Color Measuring Instruments
  • Clarity: Clarity Grades - Origin and Nomenclature, Clarity Grading Systems, External and Internal Features
  • Carat: Weight Estimation of different cuts such as Eight Cut, Carre, Full Cut, Emerald Cut, Oval Cut, Navettes, Drop Shape along with Instruments for Weight Estimation of Round Brilliant
  • Plotting and Grading of Cut and Polished Diamonds by Color, Clarity- External and Internal Features, Cut-Symmetry Features, Calculation of Proportions and Cut Evaluation
  • Diamond and its Simulants including Synthetic Moissanite and Synthetic Cubic Zirconia along with their Identification Techniques
  • Diamond Synthesis, Treatment of Diamonds & the methods of Detection/ Identifiction
